Fall 2010

Now that the semester is half way through, I have decided to tell you about it. Shaun got his job in the IT department at Thermo Fisher including a pay raise. He also goes to school full time which means he is gone from 7:20am-7:10pm or 8pm monday thru thursday. He is able to come home earlier on fridays around 5pm.

We have been be able to work with our schedules until this semester without a baby sitter but with my crazy internship hours we need someone to help us out. THANK YOU!! I have an hour class on tuesday morning and a possibility of a full days schedule from 9am-9pm wednesday and thursdays. Those two days are really random since it depends when clients come for counseling sessions. Shaun mentioned this crazy schedule to some of the guys at work and one of their spouses volunteered to watch Brooklynn for only a dollar an hour. So I usually bring her to there during my random times wednesday and thursday. Lately it's been from 8am-3pm. In the evening, I have neighbors who volunteer their time from 5:30-7pm until Shaun gets home to watch Brooklynn. THANK YOU! A few times I have had a couple of other people help us out around 4pm until my neighbors could come at 5:30pm.

I go to the Family Life Center early to get a parking spot. No one day is the same. This internship requires us interns to observe client counseling sessions, call and follow up with clients, present financial and housing information at workshops and other events, and counsel clients about purchasing a home. We also have two goals to complete at the end of the semester. I have decided to read two financial books and write reports on them. I really enjoy reading. We are also required to update a section of the resource books available at the center and pass out information about a financial workshop provided. If anyone is interested in learning about financial managemnt or steps to obtain a home, just give the Family Life Center a call @ 435-797-7224. Other HUD approved non-profit organizations are also listed at www.hud.gov.

In the meantime, Brooklynn is growing up so fast. She has not been sleeping the best at night since I started this internship. I think she just doesn't want to be left behind. It breaks my heart every time I leave because she screams and cries. Luckily, she only does this for a few minutes after I leave and is fine the rest of the day. I play as much as I can when I am home. She loves books and pointing to things I ask her to find. She'll come pat my legs and brings me books as I sit at the computer. I love my baby girl. I hope one day soon we can add to our little family and Brooklynn can have a brother or sister. I will attach pictures soon.

Internships

Shaun and I both have internships this semester. While it seems like everyone is enjoying their summer break, Shaun and I are still working hard. I am a housing intern for Neighborhood Nonprofit Housing Corporation and Shaun is a trainer at Thermo Fisher. I work from 9am-2pm and Shaun works from 2:30pm-11:00pm or later. Mostly later.

So far Brooklynn has been sick since Friday evening and today is Tuesday. She seems to be a lot better this evening and might been done throwing up. If she isn't better by Thursday her pediatrician told us to bring her in. Good news is that one of us is always home to take care of her.

Shaun was going to have an internship from 9am-5pmish? But someone else on his shift got an internship and two people down from six is not good for their team. The IT manager was really upset that Shaun wouldn't be working with him. Instead, he took over the position the other guy had and was able to count that as his internship, keeping the same hours he was working before. We also found someone to watch Brooklynn if he got the IT position. She was willing to be paid $50 a week. She also has a little girl a week older than Brooklynn. That would have been really fun for them.

NNHC is were I am working. Thursday, May 13, was my first day. So far, I have been organizing files and updating information for our Shelf Help program. In short, 7 families get together and help each other build homes. Of course there is always someone on site helping them build. This saves a lot of money but is a lot of work. It usually takes 8-12 months to build the homes. Nobody moves in until everyone is finished. Once I get half the hours I need for my internship, they will start paying me. That means that out of the 300 hours I need, I will be their employee for 150 of those hours. If you would like to learn more about the Shelf Help program or other programs available, visit our website at www.nnhc.net.

She's a toddler

Brooklynn has been walking for about 6 or 7 weeks but Sunday March 14th, she decided that it was more fun to walk then crawl. I love how she sucks on her top lip.

Brooklynn is also sporting a new set of teeth. She got her first tooth around 13 months and the second tooth came in shortly after. At 14 and 1/2 months she got all four teeth ontop within two or three days of each other. She has had it rough. So now she has six teeth.

Now that she has her teeth and she can walk, Brooklynn has also decided to start eating table food. She still eats baby food but today she ate ham and beans with me for dinner. Yesterday, she ate paste with her Daddy. We are so excited. One day she's a baby, the next day she's a toddler. I didn't think she'd ever eat table food.

We also decided to go buy a red wagon today. She loves it. We put a teddy bear and her Roxy (a build a bear dog) from her birthday in the wagon with her and pushed her up and down the hallway. Later we went to the park, slide down the slide, played in the woodchips and followed the other kids around. It was such a beautiful day outside.

I had a video to put on the blog. I tried uploading it but it seriously has taken longer the 90 minutes to upload so I canceled it. Maybe my facebook will let me tomorrow. Right now I can't even get pictures up on facebook.

Here is one from saturday morning. I must have left the bathroom door open because Brooklynn got in there and pulled all the toilet paper onto the floor and had her two tiny hands on the seat of the toilet checking out the water.
