Shaun and I both have internships this semester. While it seems like everyone is enjoying their summer break, Shaun and I are still working hard. I am a housing intern for Neighborhood Nonprofit Housing Corporation and Shaun is a trainer at Thermo Fisher. I work from 9am-2pm and Shaun works from 2:30pm-11:00pm or later. Mostly later.
So far Brooklynn has been sick since Friday evening and today is Tuesday. She seems to be a lot better this evening and might been done throwing up. If she isn't better by Thursday her pediatrician told us to bring her in. Good news is that one of us is always home to take care of her.
Shaun was going to have an internship from 9am-5pmish? But someone else on his shift got an internship and two people down from six is not good for their team. The IT manager was really upset that Shaun wouldn't be working with him. Instead, he took over the position the other guy had and was able to count that as his internship, keeping the same hours he was working before. We also found someone to watch Brooklynn if he got the IT position. She was willing to be paid $50 a week. She also has a little girl a week older than Brooklynn. That would have been really fun for them.
NNHC is were I am working. Thursday, May 13, was my first day. So far, I have been organizing files and updating information for our Shelf Help program. In short, 7 families get together and help each other build homes. Of course there is always someone on site helping them build. This saves a lot of money but is a lot of work. It usually takes 8-12 months to build the homes. Nobody moves in until everyone is finished. Once I get half the hours I need for my internship, they will start paying me. That means that out of the 300 hours I need, I will be their employee for 150 of those hours. If you would like to learn more about the Shelf Help program or other programs available, visit our website at www.nnhc.net.
